The Fifth National Filtration Conference

The Fifth National Filtration Symposium, focusing on the explanation of the instructions for inspection, testing, and delivery of gas turbine air intake filters in power plants and introducing new standards for turbomachinery, was held in Tehran at the Niroo Research Institute by Iran Filtech with the participation of the Thermal Power Plants Company, the Niroo Research Institute, and the Isfahan Science and Technology Town. At the beginning of this conference, video clips introducing the Isfahan Science and Town and the filtration laboratory, introducing the members of the scientific committee of Iran Filtech, and a short teaser of the filtration conference were played.

Ali Isapour, the Director General of the Office of Technology and Indigenous Development at the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, delivered remarks on the importance of protecting the air intake of gas turbines and utilizing appropriate filtration systems. He also presented materials related to the importance of localization of equipment used in power plants and statistics of localization and cost reduction. He also mentioned the formulation and notification of new instructions for inspection, testing, and delivery of gas turbine inlet air filters. After going through the steps and holding several meetings, this instruction was finally compiled and sent to all the companies under the group through a letter.

Ebrahim Sarbandi Farahani, the head of the Power Generation Research Center at the Niroo Research Institute, also mentioned the capacity of the Isfahan Science and Technology Town to play a role in improving the performance level of power plants. He stated: “Given the capacities of the Isfahan Science and Technology Town, the decision has been made to support this town and its filtration laboratory in this path.” Standardization of maintenance and repair, energy management standards, vocational training systems, physical asset management, equipment validation tests, software standardization, and similar topics are among the key areas planned and implemented to enhance the performance of power plants.

Azam Bajgholi, the Manager of Inspection and Supervision for the Implementation of Electrical and Energy Industry Standards at the Power Research Institute, also presented the activities of the inspection management and the specialized evaluation council for assessing the qualifications of suppliers of thermal power generation industry goods at the Fifth Filtration Conference.

Mehrnoosh Hoor, the Manager of the Planning and Standards Office in the Electrical Industry, also discussed the importance of using up-to-date standards in the electrical industry and highlighted the activities undertaken to develop instructions for the inspection, testing, and acceptance of air intake filters for gas turbine of power plants during the Fifth Filtration Conference.

Finally, two scientific and specialized workshops were organized by Mojtaba Saadatpour and Thorsten Stoffel according to the aims and themes of the conference.

In the first workshop on the topic of explaining the instructions for the inspection, testing, and delivery of gas turbine inlet air filters of the power plant, Saadatpour explained the clauses of this instruction and presented technical discussions regarding the standards used for testing the inlet air filters of gas turbines.

In the second workshop, aimed at familiarizing participants with the latest international standards for turbomachinery, Torsten Stoffel, the production manager of Hegnst, Germany, conducted the session. This workshop featured a dubbed film presentation of his lecture delivered at the conference.

Finally, a question and answer session was held with the presence of Mojtaba Saadatpour, Davood Safaian, Mehrnoush Hoor, Aazam Bajoghli, Torsten Stoffel, Mahmoud Amro, and Hamid Reza Tavangar. Hamid Reza Tavangar, the head of planning and maintenance methods at the Gas Transmission Company of Region 2, also attended to answer technical and specialized questions from the participants of the fifth National Filtration Conference.

After the question and answer session, the text of the conference statement was read by the moderator, which is given below.

Statement of the Fifth National Filtration Conference

With the grace of Almighty God and appreciation for the esteemed professors and scholars, the Fifth National Filtration Conference on the subject of “Issuance and Explanation of the Instructions for Inspection, Testing, and Delivery for Gas Turbine Air Intake Filters and Review of the New Standard for Turbomachines” was held with the active and effective cooperation of hundreds of industry experts and filtration and separation science scholars.

What distinguishes this conference from other events in the field of separation is the enthusiastic participation and presence of prominent professors, managers, and industry leaders of the country, as well as domestic and foreign manufacturers in this field.

This event, coinciding with the issuance of the mentioned instruction, is an effective step towards establishing a documented cycle of production, consumption, and inspection, as well as principled localization based on the knowledge of air intake turbine filters.

The organizers of this event have always strived to create a collaborative environment between industry professionals in need and the scientists and manufacturers of our beloved homeland. With the hope that this event has been able to take a small step towards the advancement of knowledge and industry in our dear country.

God bless you
