The First National Filtration Conference

The First National Filtration Conference, focusing on the explanation of performance tests and inspections, as well as the requirements related to dry gas filters, was held in October 2016). The conference was attended by high-ranking managers of the National Gas Company and inspection, operation, and technical engineering units of subsidiary companies of the National Gas Company, at the Isfahan Science and Technology Town.

The objectives of organizing the Filtration Conference

  • Increasing participants’ knowledge about relevant standards and the methods of inspection and quality control of filters aims to enhance the quality level of domestic production
  • Collaborating on the promotion of national and international standards
  • Visiting the Filtration Laboratory at the Science and Technology Town and familiarizing with the testing methods

At the beginning of the conference, Dr. Keshmiri, the head of the Science and Technology Town, delivered a speech introducing the Science and Technology Town and its missions and objectives.

Ebrahim Mohseni, Head of Technical Inspection of the Gas Company of Isfahan province, another speaker at this conference, provided explanations regarding the importance and position of filtration in Iran’s gas industry.

In this conference, Mojtaba Saadatpour, the director of the Filtration Laboratory at the Isfahan Science and Technology Town, presented technical and specialized topics based on the themes of the conference. After a comprehensive review of the characteristics of natural gas and the factors affecting its contamination, he provided a detailed explanation of the IGS-M-PM-111 standard, which pertains to the inspection and testing of elements of dry gas filters. In this section, the necessity of using this standard in the construction and testing of gas filter elements, the objectives and scope of the IGS standard, definitions existing in the standard, as well as the necessary technical specifications for manufacturing filter elements compliant with the mentioned standard, were taught. Furthermore, challenges with the IGS standard and proposed improvements to enhance the manufacturing status of gas filter elements in the country for the elevation of domestic production quality were addressed.

After him, Hamidreza Tavangar, a senior technical engineer at the Gas Transmission Company of Region 2, with years of research experience in filter elements used in the gas industry as well as standards in this area, started his presentation on the EN779 standard.

In the second part of the conference, the guests visited the Filtration Laboratory at the Science and Technology Town. In this part, the conference instructor, Engineer Saadatpour, provided a comprehensive explanation of the establishment history of the Filtration Laboratory in the town, its working scopes, laboratory accreditations, and the overall process of testing a gas filter element according to the IGS-M-PM111 standard. Following this, a question and answer session was held with the presence of Engineer Sheikh Bahaei, Engineer Alavi, course instructors, and invitees at the conference venue.

Considering the focus and objectives of this conference, which revolve around the importance of gas filter elements in the industry and the necessity of using a comprehensive standard for manufacturing and inspection, as well as the enhancement of quality in domestic production relying on this standard and the necessity of inspecting gas filters, the conference concluded with a session on the coordination of manufacturing according to the IGS standard and coordination in the inspection methods of these components. The importance of using filtration laboratories in this field was also emphasized.
